CRC recognizes Karen Reed-Coffman, MBA, CPCS, CPMSM

As part of our new initiative to highlight the efforts of MSPs everywhere, the Credentialing Resource Center Team is recognizing stellar MSPs in the community by featuring them in Credentialing Resource Center Digest. In our first feature, we would like to recognize Karen Reed-Coffman, MBA, CPCS, CPMSM. Karen is the director of medical staff services at Stormont Vail Health in Kansas.

"Karen works tirelessly to ensure the providers that are on boarding into our organization are competent and pose no threats to the health and wellness of the patients we care for," explains the colleague who nominated Karen. "She truly understands the importance of the medical staff team being diligent to ensure the safety of our patients. She has built a strong program and has gained the trust and respect of her team members, physician leaders and administration."

The CRC team reached out to Karen so that we could get to know her better and hear about her work in the field. Below are the highlights of our conversation:

  • Karen has worked in medical staff services for almost 13 years and in healthcare for 30 years.
  • She is passionate about volunteering and educating other MSPs, and she advises all new MSPs  get involved with their state and national associations.
  • When asked to sum up being an MSP in a few words, she replied, “Essential.”
  • She highly recommends that all MSPs read Blind Eye by James B. Stewart and listen to the podcast “Dr. Death.”

The CRC team thanks Karen for her work on the frontlines of safeguarding patient care!
