2015 NPDB Guidebook

Patricia Furci, RN, MA, Esq., and Samuel J. Furci, MPA, tackle the issues medical staffs must be aware of regarding new reporting requirements. The updated National Practitioner Data Bank Guidebook was released on April 6, 2015. This is the first updated release of the guidebook in over 10 years. Given the volume of information and the significant changes that are included in the new guidebook, MSPs will be well served to familiarize themselves with the changes and assist hospital and medical staff leadership in how to best address as well as communicate the current requirements to all applicable parties. The high level of sensitivity and importance centered on reporting and querying the NPDB warrants considerable dialogue among the respective groups who maintain an interest in regard to the recent changes (i.e., governing body, senior management, medical staff, allied health professionals, and MSPs). It is most important to get everyone on the same page.
