Ambulatory surgery center operators to merge in $792 million deal

 

Two operators of ambulatory surgery center (ASC), Surgery Partners and Symbion, recently announced a $792 million merger agreement.
 
In the deal, Surgery Partners, which owns and operates 47 ASCs in 18 states, will purchase 100% of the stock of Symbion, which operates 50 surgical facilities in 24 states. After the merger, the combined company will employ 2,400 physicians and provide services to more than 500,000 patients annually.

In a statement, Surgery Partners CEO Mike Doyle said, “The acquisition of Symbion provides an opportunity to build a larger, diversified portfolio of assets while also offering a compelling integrated care model which drives efficiency by cost effective design.”

The merger deal is pending any required regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
