Are your credentialing requirements too restrictive?

The consequences of not setting sufficient rules as to who can be granted privileges at a given hospital are frequent fodder for credentialing professionals, medical staff leaders, and legal counsel. But what happens when we go too far in the opposite direction? Overly prescriptive credentialing and privileging requirements can bring about their own problems and challenges and put the practitioner, and the hospital, at legal risks of a wholly different variety.
