Ask the Expert: What information should we gather from a physician applying for a new-technology privilege?
December 6, 2007
The practitioner applying for the new privilege should supply medical staff leadership with the following information:
- Rationale for the new procedure
- A comparison to alternative treatments already available
- The cost for new equipment, training, etc.
- Preliminary criteria for appointment and reappointment
Supplying medical staff leaders with this information from the get-go allows them to more easily determine whether it makes sense even to consider the procedure and invest further time and effort reviewing the physician's privileging request
