Blog: 'Telemental health' could ease psych care burden on PCPs
October 31, 2013
It’s estimated that more than a third of all mental-healthcare in the U.S. is now provided by primary care physicians (PCPs) and other practitioners because patients don’t want or can’t easily access psychiatric care, according to Suzanne Koven, MD. However, many PCPs lack the time or training to diagnose and manage psychiatric disorders, Koven wrote in a recent blog in The New Yorker. A possible solution is to include “telemental health” in a care team.
