Boston hospitals considering a merger
December 11, 2014
Boston Medical Center and Tufts Medical Center recently confirmed that they are considering a merger. Both hospitals declined to comment on when they might reach an agreement on the merger or how they would implement it.
Both non-profit hospitals are located approximately a mile apart and, if a merger is reached, would have to determine how to consolidate their staffs and operations, and who would run the new entity.
The medical schools affiliated with each hospital—Tufts University School of Medicine and Boston University School of Medicine—would not be part of a merger deal.
