Care, teams, and quality improvement
The medical home model has been held up as a good way to improve patient care while reducing costs and encouraging teams of stakeholders to collaborate. So where is the evidence? A study published this week found little improvement in quality of care and no reductions in cost. Although the study didn’t offer reasons for the lackluster results, one suggestion is that the practices that volunteered for the medical home pilot program were already performing well, so better results might have been harder to generate. There’s always room for improvement, but some practices have more room than others.
