Checks and balances for your credentials files

When developing a checklist to audit your credentials files, start with the staff category with the most elements in the file (e.g., active staff), says Lisa Kuklinski, BBA, CPMSM, CPCS, manager of medical staff services at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. From there, you can work your way backward to develop checklists for practitioners with fewer necessary elements (e.g., affiliate staff or allied health professionals). Children's Healthcare of Atlanta used this approach when creating checklists for the 2,000-plus practitioners it is responsible for credentialing.
