CIHQ forges its way as an accreditation alternative

Healthcare institutions seeking accreditation have more options than ever. The Joint Commission, DNV GL, and HFAP are all well established, but don’t count out the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ). Granted in August 2013, CIHQ’s hospital accreditation authority has remained largely under wraps. However, as awareness grows, the company’s emphasis on solution-focused surveys and low-cost, high-value services may compel organizations to change hands or seek first-time accreditation—and charge their MSPs with boning up on brand-new standards. In fact, 3% of respondents to the 2017 MSP Salary Survey already work for an CIHQ-accredited facility—a percentage just shy of the 5.6% in HFAP institutions (Figure 1).
