Do locum tenens need their own staff category?

At the 2016 Credentialing Resource Center Symposium, when speakers Sally Pelletier, CPMSM, CPCS, and Carol Cairns, CPMSM, CPCS, told audience members that locum tenens do not need a medical staff category, there was a collective gasp in the crowd. It was evident that many MSPs and physician leaders have created a separate category for locum tenens and feel it is necessary to use it. However, if you take a step back and think about the situation, why do your locum tenens have their own staff category?
