Editor's Note

Dear readers,

I recently read a CNN article about researchers developing a surgical “black box” for the operating room, similar to those found in airplanes. The black box would use cameras to track and record a surgeon’s movements and provide instant feedback if any errors occur.

I appreciate the effort to improve surgeons’ skills, but I’m not sure how they would react to having their every move monitored. My job is nowhere near as important as a surgeon’s but I would find it difficult to work if every one of my keystrokes was monitored and recorded. I think I would find it way too distracting, but maybe that’s one of the many reasons I’m not a surgeon.

What do you think about having a black box in the operating room? Let me know.

Thanks for reading!
