Editor’s Note

Dear readers,

In last week’s edition of Medical Staff Leader Insider, I briefly discussed preventing violence in hospitals. Sadly, after the fatal shooting of a surgeon in Boston this week, this remains an issue on the minds of many. Some have asked if installing metal detectors would help prevent these types of incidents. Other have stressed the importance of training staff for active shooter scenarios. As I wrote about last week, many hospitals have begun forming their own police departments. What are your ideas of how to best prevent violence? Let me know.

Thanks for reading!
