Hospital seeks reimbursements for physician recruiting costs

To help bring physicians to the area, Midland (Texas) Memorial Hospital (MMH) and the Midland Development Corporation (MDC) have proposed a plan to reimburse the hospital up to $2 million in recruiting costs over the course of five years.

According to the agreement, the reimbursements would be capped at $450,000 per year for fiscal years 2015 to 2019. At the end of each fiscal year, the MDC would issue the reimbursement to MMH to cover costs related to recruiting physicians such as search firm fees, meals, hotels, and travel expenses.

The agreement is pending approval by the Midland City Council at its June 17 meeting. The MDC is a five-member board appointed by the City Council that offers incentives to employers who create jobs for the community.

The MDC and MMH previously had a similar agreement for fiscal years 2008 to 2011 that successfully recruited 34 physicians.
