House may repeal ban on physician-owned hospitals
Republicans Doc Hastings (R, Wash.) and Sam Johnson (R, Texas) have each proposed a bill to repeal section 6001 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to AMedNews.com. Section 6001 was designed to stop new physician-owned hospitals from being built by preventing them from becoming Medicare certified. It also prevented existing physician-owned hospitals to grow or take on more investors. The ban has affected multi-specialty, specialty, and community-based physician-owned hospitals.
