JCAHO halts bylaws standard change

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) is seeking additional input on proposed changes to MS.1.20 in the Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals, according to the accreditor's Web site (www.jcaho.org).

The proposed revisions to the standard, which addresses medical staff bylaws requirements, has created confusion for medical staff professionals regarding what information must be addressed in the bylaws and what information can be addressed in separate documents. From JCAHO Website:

The accreditor will collect comments through February 15 and aims to release additional clarification of proposed changes in March.
