Malpractice bill stalled in Senate, says Santorum

On April 14, Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) told physicians they may face an uphill battle in their effort to get medical malpractice legislation passed through the Senate this year. Currently, legislation on the issue remains stalled in the chamber. Speaking to members of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), Santorum said that the House would pass medical malpractice legislation again this year. But he claimed that Democrats and trial lawyers are holding up legislation in the Senate. According to Santorum, S. 354, the Health Act of 2005, which is the leading medical malpractice bill in the Senate, had become bogged down.
