Minnesota court gives hospital thumbs-up to unilaterally amend medical staff bylaws

On September 25, the State of Minnesota District Court, Fifth District, ruled that Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center's medical staff bylaws are not a binding contract between the medical staff and hospital administration and that the administration can unilaterally amend the medical staff bylaws provided that it substantially complies with the amendment process. It's a rare but not unprece­dented case that has medical staffs and hospital administrators across the country wondering what went wrong.
