August 28, 2014
For the second year in row, the average physician turnover rate remained at 6.8 percent for 2013, according to a survey by the American Medical Group Association (AMGA). The rate is the highest on record since the AMGA began tracking it in 2005.
The survey’s findings coincide with the trend of more physicians retiring. The survey found that retirement was reason for 18% of separations, a 50% increase from the previous year.
The survey also found that the turnover rate for advance practice clinicians decreased to 9.4% in 2013, which is down from 11.6% from the previous year.
