New final rule refines and redefines medical staff

Recently, CMS issued a final rule to revise and clarify certain outdated Conditions of Participation (CoP) and Conditions for Coverage for hospitals, critical access hospitals, and other providers. The final rule expands CMS' definition of the medical staff and addresses medical staff unification, as well as how medical staff leadership communicates with an organization's governing body in accordance with state laws, including scope-of-practice laws.
