In the news: AMA issues physician reentry guidelines

To help abate the physician shortage, the American Medical Association (AMA) created guidelines to help state licensing boards, the Federation of State Medical Boards, and state and specialty societies to develop physician reentry programs. Physicians who have been away from practice for various reasons often wish to reenter practice at the same job level they left. However, hospitals and state and specialty boards are often left to devise a reentry program on their own. These guidelines should help standardize the process to ensure that every physician who returns to practice is competent to treat patients, according to the AMA.
