News and briefs: Hospitals need to start preparing for effects of PPACA

Now that the Supreme Court ruled to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, healthcare organizations need to be aware of the biggest issues they will face—such as new payment and care models—to develop a strategy now. In an article in Becker’s Hospital Review, Sanjay Saxena, MD, lists some of these issues. Many of them involve new partnership opportunities, such as:

  • Physician practice groups merging together to take the lead in an ACO
  • Small hospitals joining health systems
  • Partnerships between payers and providers
