News and briefs: Recruiter sees common mistakes in physician recruitment
October 18, 2012
With 25 years of experience recruiting physicians, Tony Stajduhar says there are three mistakes hospitals and health systems often make in their recruitment process. Stajduhar, president of the permanent recruitment division of Jackson & Coker, a national physician recruitment firm, shared the following mistakes and his advice for avoiding them in a recent online issue of Becker’s Hospital Review.
- Being unprepared to sign physicians. Draw up a contract and be ready to sign any physician within two weeks of an interview.
- Expecting to see the future. Focus on recruiting one candidate at a time instead of falling into the trap of comparing current candidates with candidates that might come along in the future.
- Being closed to things outside of the box. Physician recruiters need to keep their minds open on how to fill vacant physician spots. This could mean filling the spot with a non-physician.
