News and briefs: Small drop in physician-hospital engagement

Employed physicians feel less engaged with their healthcare organization than they did the previous year, according to a study from Morehead Associates, a supplier of physician surveys. Physicians were asked questions about administration, organization, department, and staff, which the survey company says are the four domains that influence physician engagement. The 2010 survey produced a score of 4.17 out of 5; in 2011 it dropped to 4.12.

Some of the factors that affected the score negatively were:

  • I am satisfied with the ease of scheduling process of my patients
  • If I am practicing medicine three years from now, I am confident I will be practicing at this hospital

Compared to 2010, physicians were more positive about whether their organization would be successful in the coming years, from 4.03 to 4.21. To see more of the survey results, click here.
