Patients admitted on weekends have higher risk of hospital-acquired conditions

A recently published study found that patients admitted to hospitals on the weekend were 20% more likely to experience one or more hospital-acquired conditions (HAC) than patients admitted during the workweek.

The study analyzed data from more than 350 million patient discharges from 2002 to 2010 and also found that HACs were associated with a 38% likelihood of a patient experiencing a prolonged length of stay and an 83% chance of incurring increased expenses.
