Peer review in a new environment

While the basic concept of peer review has remained the same over the years?the evaluation of a physician's competencies and ability to deliver safe and effective care?the ways it is performed and evaluated have changed, as well as the question of who falls into the peer review bucket. The same is true of turf disputes and disruptive practitioners. Yes, medical staffs have been dealing with these issues for years, but the specifics of the issues constantly change and unfortunately grow.

At this year's Credentialing Resource Center Symposium, speaker Todd Sagin, MD, JD, will address these hot-button issues throughout the two-day seminar, March 12?13. Sagin offers a unique perspective on medical staff issues as both a lawyer and physician. Medical Staff Briefing recently sat down with Sagin to ask him not only about the medical staff leader's role in peer review and turf battles, but also the MSP's role.
