Physician employment and peer review

The trend in recent years has seen hospitals and healthcare systems acquiring practices and employing more physicians. According to a 2014 survey conducted by healthcare staffing company Jackson Healthcare, 20% of primary care physicians were employed by a hospital. This percentage was twice as much from the 2012 survey. Furthermore, 21% of all physicians in all specialties reported being employed by a hospital.
