Student-run clinics proliferate, but so do questions

Today, the majority of U.S. medical schools have at least one student-run free clinic—a clinic almost completely staffed, operated, and led by medical students—under their auspices. However, these clinics raise some potential issues, such as patient care that is less efficient and less informed, and the possibility that the experience might reinforce the belief that it is permissible for students to learn by practicing on the impoverished.
