Tip of the week: Do not leave credentialing materials unattended

Your confidentiality policy should address how MSPs obtain approvals and recommendations. If a department chair or other committee member can't come to the medical staff services office to review the files, do not simply drop the files off, unattended, at their office. Leaving the information in a non-secure area could risk breaching the confidentiality entrusted to the MSP as the keeper of the records. Therefore, schedule a specific time to meet with the review, as the reviewer's office, if necessary. Not only will doing so preserve confidentiality, it also permits the MSP to bring any concerns discovered during the credentialing process to the reviewer's attention and answer any questions.
