Tip of the week: Limit strategic reports to those needing discussion

In looking at which items stay on the medical executive committee’s regular agenda, as opposed to getting moved to a consent agenda, this week let’s take reports from administration on the hospital’s status and direction. Although these reports should stay on the regular agenda, limit it to strategic reports that require discussion and debate. If it’s a routine announcement from the CEO to the medical staff, put it on the consent agenda rather than assigning discussion time to the announcement.

This week’s tip is from Medical Executive Committee Essentials Handbook, by Richard A. Sheff, MD; and Robert J. Marder, MD. Next week, we will look at another item to keep on the regular agenda.
