Tip of the week: MEC should put physicians' concerns in writing

Last week, we discussed the importance of dedicating a set amount of time on the medical executive committee agenda to discuss physician performance issues. This week, let’s discuss concerns physicians want to communicate to administration.

When the MEC wants to present concerns to administration, the group should discuss the issues at its meeting with the goal of putting those concerns in writing. Don’t simply chat. Similar to creating structure to discuss physician performance, there needs to be structure to the discussion about relaying physicians’ concerns to administration.

This week’s tip is from Medical Executive Committee Essentials Handbook, by Richard A. Sheff, MD; and Robert J. Marder, MD. Next week, we will look at another item to keep on the regular agenda.
