Tip of the week: Provide different orientation for different medical staff groups

Organizations should develop thorough orientation programs to provide additional education about the institution’s policies and procedures, accreditation standards, and regulations to which they must adhere. The first step in developing an orientation program is to identify the specific audience for the training. Some examples include:

·         All new practitioners granted clinical privileges

·         New faculty versus private practice staff

·         Practitioners due for reappointment (refresher course)

·         New medical staff leaders (division chiefs)

·         New elected officers, committee chairs, or committee members

·         Residents/ fellows

·         Allied health staff
