Tip of the week: Resolve incidents at the division level before filing a report
If a nurse and a physician have a disagreement, the first step is not for the nurse to automatically file an incident report against the physician or vice versa. The individuals involved should attempt to resolve the concerns at the division level with guidance from the nurse supervisor or division chief if necessary. If they are unable to come to a resolution or if the concerns were significant (such as cursing, throwing instruments, yelling, etc.), an incident report should be filed.
