Tip of the week: Use the Internet for credentialing

Medical staff offices across the country are using the Internet to make credentialing more efficient and commonly use it to obtain primary source verifications and employing services of online central verification organizations (CVO).

If an organization uses the Web for primary source verifications, the staff member doing the verification should use only sites that have current information. Additionally, MSPs must date and initial verifications, whether on a printout or handwritten findings.

For a fee, online CVOs provide verification with some giving hospitals access to databases to check the status of applications. As with any online exchange, make sure you are working with a secure site.
