VA proposes regulations to speed up access to healthcare
November 6, 2014
In the wake of the scandal earlier this year over delayed access to care, the Department of Veterans Affairs has proposed a new program would expand veterans’ access to private healthcare providers.
The Veterans Choice Program would pay for veterans to visit private physicians in an effort to shorten the wait for care. The program outlines the guidelines for covered services and reimbursement rates. To qualify for the program, healthcare providers must already participate in Medicare and be able to provide timely care within a reasonable distance from the patient’s home.
The public has until early March 2015 to comment on the program.
