Hospital mergers and acquisitions continue in response to the evolving regulatory environment in the healthcare industry. National healthcare policy is driving the urge to merge across the healthcare sector. While decreasing reimbursements for traditional fee-for-service care from government and private payors continue to impact the bottom line, the cost for caring for indigent patients has not diminished. As a result, many hospitals are forced to merge with other established organizations as a means for survival (Vogel and Hadfield, 2017).
