Kansas appeals court: Healthcare providers have no duty to maintain medical record confidentiality
Under Kansas common law, a healthcare provider doesn’t have a duty to "safeguard, protect, and maintain the confidentiality of a patient's medical records," according to a recent decision by the Court of Appeals of Kansas (the “Court”). The plaintiff in the case, identified in court documents as "T.R.," sued the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) for damages, alleging several claims.
