The new face of telemedicine: How COVID-19 is changing the practice

Between social distancing, event cancellations, and stay-at-home orders, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has rendered our society’s day-to-day nearly unrecognizable. We order takeout in lieu of going out to a sit-down restaurant, we don masks and rubber gloves to do our weekly grocery shopping, and we do our best to avoid areas we once thought were safest: hospitals and doctors’ offices. In an effort to ensure continued access to important medical care, many practitioners and organizations have taken advantage of telemedicine, opting to keep seeing patients but from a safe distance.
