Hospitals consider pros and cons of ED call solutions

During what some physicians may consider the "good old days," taking ED call was a way for physicians to generate revenue and drive business toward their private practices. However, changes to the way payers reimburse physicians and a rising number of under- and uninsured patients has made taking ED call, quite frankly, not worth physicians' time. As a result, hospitals are having difficulty maintaining an adequate ED call schedule as more physicians request to forgo the once obligatory duty.
