AAAHC acquires HFAP
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Heath Care (AAAHC) announced its purchase of the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). As of October 14, HFAP was placed under the direction of the AAAHC’s accrediting arm the Accreditation Association for Hospital and Health Systems (AAHHS).
In a statement posted on its website, HFAP wrote, “This is a historic transaction for both parties and is the first involving two organizations with deemed status and it has been reviewed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. We are confident that it will result in a stronger HFAP and allow you and other HFAP clients access to the broad range of accreditation services offered by AAAHC.”
In a FAQ on HFAP’s website, AOA says accreditation of healthcare facilities is no longer a membership issue for AOA members as it was previously when HFAP was created. The AOA will continue as an operational partner until AAHHS receives deeming authority for all deemed HFAP programs.
