As physicians focus on engaging and involving patients in their own care, Becker’s Hospital Review, is sharing its top tips for doing so. According to the article, hospitals and health systems must first develop a strategy that “successfully promotes care quality, safety, and cost efficiencies.”

Author Gary Kolbeck, president of LodgeNet Healthcare, says some steps should focus on the patient, such as defining the patient’s role, educating the patient, and assessing individual patient need. Other steps address the hospital’s role, such as assessing how existing investments in infrastructure can combat the high-costs of increasing patient engagement and strategies to support care transitions.
