News and briefs: Are doctors underpaid?
A column on CNN’s blog, The Chart, authored by plastic surgeon Anthony Youn, MD, explores why a recent Medscape study found 49% of physicians believe they are underpaid. Despite an awareness of physicians receiving high amounts of compensation, the perception of physicians as overpaid professionals is misleading, according to Youn.
Length of required education, student debt, seriousness of responsibilities, hours at work, and a ceiling on earning are factors that lead to why physicians feel they are underpaid when compared to other traditionally high-earning careers.
