Physicians are not the top earners in the healthcare industry
The salaries of insurance and hospital executives frequently far exceed those of highly trained physicians, according to an analysis recently published by The New York Times.
On average, general physicians earned $185,000 and surgeons earned $306,000 in 2013. This is compared to $237,000 for hospital administrators, $386,000 for hospital CEOs, and $584,000 for insurance CEOs. These figures don’t include incentives or bonuses.
