CMS offers settlement over short-term hospital stay claims

To help reduce the number of appeals over short-term inpatient stay claims, CMS announced a proposed settlement to pay hospitals a portion of what they claim they are owed.

 

If hospitals withdraw their appeals, CMS will pay 68% of what the hospitals claim they are owed for short-term stays. The settlement only applies to admissions prior to October 1, 2013. Only acute care and critical access hospitals are eligible to submit settlement requests, and must do so by October 31.
