Tip of the week: Develop a game face for implementing policies
October 6, 2011
Policies and procedures should be clear, easy to follow, efficient, and effective. Streamlined bylaws make it especially important for medical staffs to have a strong set of policies and procedures governing physician expectations and behaviors. Well-drafted medical staff policies and procedures help physician leaders govern fairly and objectively, and create a mechanism for consistent governance by eliminating the "personal" element in conflicts. In short, policies and procedures demonstrate F-A-C-E:
- Fairness in application
- Accuracy to deal with "real-life" situations
- Consistency of application
- Effectiveness because of clarity
