Rhode Island docs disciplined for inappropriate conduct
There is yet one more reason to filter your online activity. The Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline reprimanded Dr. Alexandra Thran of Westerly Hospital after she wrote Facebook posts regarding her experiences in the emergency department. Thran did not post patients’ names, but the nature of one patient’s injuries enabled third parties to identify who it was. Thran deleted her Facebook account as soon as she realized she had breached patient confidentiality, but the board ordered her to pay a $500 administrative fee. The lesson: even if you think your Facebook post is innocent, it’s probably not.
The board also suspended the license of Dr. Yogesh B. Pancholi, who, in 2007, was diagnosed with alcoholism and marijuana abuse. Pancholi was cited for buying drugs over the Internet that allowed him to falsify alcohol and marijuana screening tests and for teaching community members how to grow and use marijuana.
