$100 million settlement for health system that overcompensated physicians
October 1, 2015
Adventist Health System will pay $118 million to settle claims that it overpaid physicians in order to get more referrals. The plaintiffs alleged that Adventist convinced physician practices to join the system by providing inflated base salaries and extravagant bonuses. One physician allegedly received $300,000 annually for only working three days a month because of the high number of referrals he provided to the health system. Phillips & Cohen LLP, the law firm that represented the plaintiffs, said that this settlement was the largest ever paid for fraudulent physician compensation agreements.
