Ask the expert: Do proctors need to be trained before being assigned to a case?

Yes. At a minimum, proctors should receive written documents that describe the proctor’s responsibilities, the overall process, forms the proctor must complete and to whom they should be submitted, and information on the payment and liability insurance provided to the proctor. If the medical staff requires that the active staff or some component of the staff must provide proctoring services, then the medical staff must decide what training it will provide.
