Tip of the week: Develop a meaningful MEC agenda
The first step in elevating the level of discussion that takes place at the medical executive committee (MEC) meeting is to create a consent agenda. Reports, issues, and announcements that do not require direct discussion and debate should go on a consent agenda. Any MEC member can request an item be moved from the consent agenda to the regular agenda for discussion. The first action taken at the MEC meeting is approval of the consent agenda. This simple move takes most routine business off the agenda and allows the meeting to focus on items that require discussion.
What items should stay on the regular agenda? This question will be discussed in next week’s issue of Medical Staff Leaders Connection.
