CMS implements final EMTALA rule

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has come through on its promise to lighten hospital's obligations under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). In a final rule, CMS offers hospitals "common-sense improvements" designed to ensure that emergency departments and specialty physicians are able to care for patients who need emergency care. The rule becomes effective November 10.
